FastBridge has organized its guidance and resources for mathematics instruction and intervention into the seven domains shown below, covering Foundational, Applied, or Advanced skills. The interventions are included as part of the Instruction Plans in the Screening to Intervention Report for Math (s2i-M). There are both whole- and small-group lesson materials available in the Training and Resources section of the FastBridge website. Each intervention includes eight sections and users are encouraged to examine all the sections of an intervention prior to using it with students. This article provides information about the Number Sense interventions.
Number Sense includes the ability to:
- recognize numerals and the quantities they represent
- understand and use the correct order and series of numbers
- understand and use part-whole relationships
- understand and use the properties of smaller and bigger quantities
Number Sense is one of three foundational skill areas necessary for math proficiency. Additional information about how best to teach number sense as part of a comprehensive mathematics curriculum is found in the free practice guide Teaching Math to Young Children.
The FastBridge Screening to Intervention Report for Math (s2i-M) provides the best guidance for which interventions to use with whole classes as well as small groups.
