Screening to Intervention Report for Reading
The Screening to Intervention Report for Reading (s2i-R) provides data for teachers to plan both whole-class and small-group instruction and intervention. Using student scores from two specific reading assessments, the s2i-R recommends the reading skill that the entire class most needs to improve. In addition, this report lists scores and instructional recommendations that can be used to group students for small-group intervention (e.g., Tier 2). The s2i-R will display either an entire class or an entire grade. In order to see the grade-wide view, the teacher must have grade-wide access activated by the district manager.
Assessments Required for the Screening to Intervention Report for Reading
The s2i-R is designed to be used in conjunction with FASTtrack Reading. FASTtrack Reading is a tool for teachers that lets them access the FastBridge recommended reading assessments for each grade level. FastBridge recommends that students complete two specific reading assessments three times during each school year as part of universal screening. One of these assessments focuses on the student’s specific reading skills and the other on broader reading achievement. When combined, the scores from the specific and broad measures provide important details about students’ reading instruction needs.
FASTtrack Reading
Teachers access FASTtrack Reading from the teacher Screening tab on the left menu. Note that the FASTtrack feature is automatically turned on for all accounts, and can be turned off by the district manager.
FASTtrack Reading includes specific assessments of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, and general reading. The following assessments measure these skills for each grade level:
Grades | Phonemic Awareness | Phonics & Fluency | General Reading |
K | Onset Sounds Word Segmenting | earlyReading Letter Sounds | earlyReading Composite |
1 | Word Segmenting |
earlyReading Sentence Reading (Fall) CBMreading (Winter & Spring) |
earlyReading Composite |
2-3 | aReading** | CBMreading | aReading |
4-12 | aReading** | AUTOreading Composite | aReading |
**The phonemic awareness scores for students in grades 2-12 are estimated from the phonemic awareness items on the aReading assessment. |
Components of the Screening to Intervention Report for Reading (s2i-R)
The s2i-R report for reading includes two sections. The top portion of the report includes information about the reading performance of an entire class or grade level.
Instruction Plans
An important feature of the s2i-R is the instruction plan. These plans include detailed guidance indicating what specific type of instruction is recommended for a grade, class, or individual student. There is a link to the recommended grade- or class-wide instruction plan at the top of the report under the group recommendation.
Grade-Wide or Class-Wide Recommendation
The top portion of the report displays data indicating what percentage of students in the entire class met the benchmark score for (a) phonemic awareness, (b) phonics and fluency, and (c) general reading. In addition, there is a summary indicating the recommended focus for whole-group instruction. There is a link to an instruction plan for the recommended whole-group lessons.
Small-Group and Individual Recommendations
The lower portion of the s2i-R includes nine columns with details about each student’s reading performance. These details include the student’s name, scores for phonemic awareness, phonics and fluency, and general reading skills, estimated values on related reading measures, as well as the recommended instruction plan, intervention, and progress measure that can address the student’s current reading instruction needs. For students whose scores are at or above the grade-level benchmark score, the recommended “plan” will be “On Track.”

Guided Reading Level Equivalencies
Within the Screening to Intervention Report there are certain earlyReading scores that will not generate a reading level. Students above or below a certain score threshold will not receive a Reading Program Level on the Screening to Intervention Report because we do not have those outliers in our data sets for comparison. Therefore, they will receive a N/A.
- Kindergarten: Scores below 42 and above 99 will receive N/A for Reading Program.
- Grade 1: Scores below 19 and above 98 will also receive N/A for Reading Program.
