FASTtrack Math provides teachers with easy access to the FastBridge recommended math screening assessments for each grade level. FASTtrack Math includes two specific assessments that students complete three times a year for universal screening. FastBridge has pre-selected the specific assessments to use based on their capacity to predict future student math performance and indicate what type of math instruction is needed now. After students complete both the specific and general math assessments, the teacher can view the scores and see recommended math instruction plans using the Screening to Intervention report for Math (s2i-M).
Accessing FASTtrack Math
Teachers access FASTtrack Math from the teacher Screening tab on the left menu.
Note that FASTtrack Math is automatically turned on for all accounts and can be turned off by the district manager.
FASTtrack Math includes specific assessments of number, operations, and general math. The following assessments measure these skills for each grade level:

*The number scores for students in grades 2-8 are estimated from the number items on the aMath assessment.
**Students in grades 4-8 complete the grade 3 CBMmath Automaticity items and they are scored using norms for grades 4-6.

Starting in grade 2, all students complete the CBMmath Automaticity assessment as part of FASTtrack Math. This assessment measures automaticity with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. For students in grades 2 and 3, the items represent the typical grade 2 mathematics curriculum. Since mastery of basic operations is necessary for all more advanced math skills and the grade 3 content includes all four operations, the grade 3 form is used for grades 4 and higher as well. For students in grade 4 through 6, there are grade-specific CBMmath Automaticity norms and benchmarks. The CBMmath Automaticity norms and benchmarks for grades 7 through 12 are in development. Until grade-specific CBMmath Automaticity norms for grades 7 through 12 are available, FASTtrack math will use the grade 6 norms and benchmarks in the s2i-M report.
Note that FASTtrack Math content for high school students includes the CBMmath Automaticity basic operations items as well as aMath items that are still being validated in a Lab phase. The high school aMath items were scheduled to be released from Lab status for fall 2020, however, the limited testing conducted in spring 2020 due to COVID-19 school closures prevented final validation. FastBridge will continue to collect data on these items throughout the 2020-2021 school year and release the items from Lab status as soon as sufficient data confirm their contribution to a reliable and valid aMath score. During the 2020-2021 school year, FastBridge recommends that high school educators use FASTtrack Math and the accompanying s2i-M report as supplementary assessments and not as the only math assessment for instructional decisions.
What Does Each Assessment Include?
Each of the FASTtrack Math assessments is designed to provide information about the selected math skills so that teachers can develop instruction best-match to all students’ needs. Some of the assessments are teacher-administered (TA) and others are computer-based (CB). Here are descriptions of the assessments and how they measure math skills.
- Teacher-Administered Assessments:
- earlyMath Numeral Identification: The teacher presents the student with a page of numbers (1-30 at Kindergarten and 1-120 at grade 1). The student says the name of each numeral.
- earlyMath Number Sequence: The teacher orally presents a short sequence of numbers in forward, backward, or missing number format. The student continues counting or provides the missing number.
- earlyMath Place Value: Using a paper form, the student circles the correct number of printed block units that match a given number or writes the number that matches the number of in a picture of block units.
- earlyMath Decomposing-1: The teacher presents the student with a page displaying a number in large type at the top and boxes with either a number or dots in one half and a blank space in the other half. The student says the number needed to create the sum at the top of the page.
- earlyMath Composite: In addition to the above earlyMath subtests, the student completes 1 additional subtest per screening period. The combined weighted scores from all 3 subtests create the Composite score and indicate the student’s overall early math skills. See below for a summary of Composite subtests.

Note: There are different versions of certain subtests for K and 1.
- Computer-Based Assessments:
- CBMmath Automaticity: The student completes math fact problems that include addition, subtraction, multiplication and/or division, depending on the student’s grade.
- aMath: The student completes 30 multiple-choice questions related to all math skills, including all domains in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. aMath is a computer-adaptive test (CAT) and after completing several items at grade level on the first administration, the FastBridge system presents easier or harder items based on the student’s answers to the preceding ones.
FASTtrack Report
The primary FastBridge report that provides details from the FASTtrack Math assessments is the Screening to Intervention Report for Math (s2i-M). This report includes both class-wide and student-specific instructional recommendations. The recommendations are linked as Instruction Plans which indicate specific types of instruction and interventions to use. More information about the s2i-M can be found in this article.
