earlyReading Spanish -- Word Segmenting (WSs)

The earlyReading Spanish -- Word Segmenting subtest assesses a student’s ability to separate a spoken word into individual sounds, called phonemes. Phonemes are the smallest units of sound in spoken language. During the earlyReading Spanish -- Word Segmenting subtest, the examiner says a word and asks the student to say any sounds in the word. earlyReading Spanish -- Word Segmenting is part of the Composite in the winter and spring of kindergarten and the fall, winter, and spring of grade 1. It can also be used for progress monitoring.

Before administering the earlyReading Spanish - Word Segmenting subtest be sure to download the student forms from the Training & Resources tab in the FastBridge system.

1. Select the Training & Resources tab.
2. Select Downloads

3. Then, select Download resources under earlyReading.

4. Finally, click on the PDF icon under the WS column, in the Administrator row.

There are not any student forms for this subtest.

To administer this assessment for the purpose of universal screening:

1. Log in to the FastBridge system as a teacher.
2. Go to the Screening tab. 
3. Select the earlyReading assessment.
4. Select the WSs column from the earlyReading Spanish Screening page.

To administer this assessment for purposes of progress monitoring:

1. Log into the FastBridge system as a teacher or a specialist.
2. Go to the Progress Monitoring tab.
3. Use the filters to find the correct assessment group of students. 
4. Select Start for the desired student and choose a Form.

For more information about the earlyReading Spanish -- Word Segmenting subtest complete the online earlyReading Spanish course found in the Training & Resources section of the FastBridge system.

To do so, navigate to the Training & Resources tab, and click on the earlyReading Spanish course tile.

Then, select the Word Segmenting option on the vertical menu.  Complete Lessons 1 through 8 in order to certify in the earlyReading Spanish - Word Segmenting subtest.
