FastBridge has organized its guidance and resources for mathematics instruction and intervention into the seven domains shown below, covering Foundational, Applied, or Advanced skills. The interventions are included as part of the Instruction Plans in the Screening to Intervention Report for Math (s2i-M). There are both whole- and small-group lesson materials available in the Training and Resources section of the FastBridge website. Each intervention includes eight sections and users are encouraged to examine all the sections of an intervention prior to using it with students. This article provides information about Algebra interventions.
Algebra is the branch of mathematics that uses letters or other symbols in formulas to solve equations. Proficiency with Algebra includes automaticity and fluency with:
- using variables and formulas,
- evaluating and simplifying expressions,
- solving equations, and
- using algebra skills to address everyday problems.
Algebra is one of two advanced skill areas necessary for proficiency in mathematics. Additional information about how best to teach Algebra as part of a comprehensive mathematics curriculum is found in the free practice guides:
- Improving Mathematical Problem-Solving in Grades 4 through 8
- Teaching Strategies for Improving Algebra Knowledge in Middle and High School Students
The FastBridge Screening to Intervention Report for Math (s2i-M) provides the best guidance for which interventions to use with whole classes as well as small groups. Go to the Training & Resources tab and select Algebra. The available FastBridge Algebra interventions include the following:
- Variables and Equality Cover-Copy-Compare
- Variables and Equality One-Minute Timings
