Mass cleanup of FastBridge User Roles (November 2023)
A mass cleanup of old, inactive FastBridge user roles was completed in both FastBridge and Iowa EdPortal. This removed all FastBridge permissions that were no longer in the district's student information system (SIS) at the time of the cleanup. As a result of this cleanup users will not be listed on the Manage Staff access pages or in the managing user for PM until they have successfully logged into FastBridge via EdPortal at least once.
If a user doesn't have the FastBridge link in their EdPortal account anymore...
This is caused by one of two things: an email mismatch or lack of FAST user role in the district SIS. Here are the steps to resolve:
1. Check the email address in the EdPortal account against the email address the district has entered in the SIS (JMC, Powerschool or Infinite Campus). If they do not match, the one that is incorrect will need to be updated to the current and appropriate district email address. directions for updating edPortal email
2. If the email addresses match, contact the SIS data entry manager to confirm that a FAST user role has been assigned.
If FastBridge looks different when a user logs in...
Look first at the role that is visible when the user arrives in the FAST system. The visual below shows what a Specialist should see upon login. The first tab shows the user role, the user role is also indicated in the upper right corner of the page, and under 'View As' the options will be limited to a Proctor View button and Teacher View selector.
This happened because there used to be an old user role still active in FastBridge. The FastBridge cleanup reset all users to only use the roles entered in the SIS. This will be most apparent if a user had a District Manager role previously and now has Specialist or Classroom User (teacher). In the past these users likely clicked on 'View As' in the upper right corner to navigate to the Specialist or teacher view. With the removal of the manager role, the highest level role is active immediately upon login and the options under 'View As' will be limited to Proctor View and Teacher View.
If users are now missing functions that are required for their job, contact the district's FastBridge District Manager or leadership team to discuss appropriate role options.
