The term “academic enablers” refers to skills that help students engage and participate in learning. Examples include being prepared with the materials needed to learn, being organized, engaging with academic material, producing academic responses, and persisting with effort on academic tasks. These skills are also known as academic behaviors and educators can support these skills by providing direct instruction in these key skills. Specific strategies and interventions for Academic Behavior are included in the FastBridge system under the Training & Resources tab.
The best way to identify classrooms or students who may benefit from Academic behavior supports is through the administration of the SAEBRS (K-12) and/or the mySAEBRS (2-12) universal screening assessments.
The following Academic Behavior Interventions are suitable for use in whole group settings, though they can be tailored for use with small groups or individual learners:
- Attention Check
- Forced Choice
- Major Concept Summaries
- Opportunities to Respond
- Think Time
- Visual Timer
- When-Then Contingency
